 Take pictures where the light is good. You want to avoid harsh shadows and bright spots, which will make it harder for you to edit later. Make sure that your subjects are facing the camera, as this makes them look more natural in photos (and also helps them feel comfortable). If they're not looking at the camera, ask them if they mind turning around so that their eyes can meet yours!  When taking pictures of your kids while they're sleeping

  • Use a tripod.
  • Use a remote trigger.
  • Use a timer.
  • Make sure your tripod is sturdy and tall enough to support your camera, as well as lightweight and portable enough that you can carry it around easily while still being able to get some shots in the field without worrying about breaking them or causing damage to your equipment (and then having no way of replacing it).

A portfolio is a collection of your photography, videos and other creative projects. It's like a CV but with pictures instead of text. You'll need this to show potential employers when you're applying for jobs, or if you want to get hired as an intern or freelancer.
